Steamboat Willie, a 1928 animated cartoon, was the first Disney cartoon to feature synchronized sound, and is also generally considered to be the first popular cartoon with synchronized sound. It is said to be the debut of the character Mickey Mouse, but was the third of Mickey’s films to be produced — the previous two being Plane Crazy, and The Gallopin’ Gaucho. It was, however, the first of the three to be distributed and released.
The film’s original release date, November 18th 1928, was later declared Mickey Mouse’s official birthday.
The transformation of Cinderella’s torn dress to that of the white ball gown was considered to be Walt Disney’s favorite piece of animation.
